Goshamahal: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which has been campaigning for the implementation of Double Bedroom Housing Scheme for some time, has decided to go on a two-day hunger strike starting from February 2 at Dharna Chowk in Indira Park. Contested MLAs from the party and top leaders from other parties, excluding MIM, TRS and BJP, will be taking part in the strike.Speaking to The Hans India, State Joint Secretary and Gosha Mahal In-charge MM Hussain said that the party leadership in Telangana is in the forefront in pressurising the state government to fulfil its promises.

Ever since the state government has started receiving applications, the poor have been hoping that the day is near when they would own a house. “The TRS came to power with the promise of providing 2BHK. This is their second term and nothing seems to be on the way to implementing the promise. The recent announcement from a higher official that only 1,400 houses per constituency would be provided will not help, as nepotism and favouritism at different levels deprive the eligible poor candidates from getting their due. I believe that those who are close to the leaders at the helm will be the beneficiaries, as it happened in earlier cases,” said Hussain.

On Tuesday, the party leaders officially received permission from the police for conducting ‘Relay Hunger Strike’ at Dharna Chowk. While granting permission, the police asked the organisers to strictly adhere to the conditions. As per the reports, 2BHK housing scheme being undertaken by GHMC in several locations is facing fund crunch due to not receiving funds from housing corporation for at least the past two months.
The AAP leader cautioned that the lands that are being claimed as government lands in Shamshabad area are slowly transferred to private companies. “If there is dearth of space, the government land that is being given away to private companies in the name of development can also be accorded for construction of 2BHK, given the priority and importance of the scheme,” he added.
