Preparations afoot for General Elections

Rangareddy: As the gram panchayat polls came to end, the official machinery is gearing up for the Lok Sabha elections. They have already received instructions from the Election Commission. The district officials have already swung into action by enrolling new voters and making corrections in the voters list. The elections for the 17 Lok Sabha may be held in the month of May. Election Commission has been instructing the officials from time to time. EC directed that inspection of EVMs should be taken up from February 1. 

The EC already wrote a letter to Chief Secretaries of all states to transfer the officers who have been working in a same place for more than three years and those working in their native places. The process of transfers may commence after the panchayat polling is over. As the process of correction is voters list and new enrolments are going on, the transfers may take place in last week of February in phased manner. 

This corrections in voters’ list will go until February 22. The enrollment of new voters along with additions and omissions in the list will take place up to February 4. The final list will be declared on February 22. Officers are busy with this process so that immediate transfer may not take place. The inspection of EVMs will be held from February 1 in the presence of all-party leaders. The EVMs used for Assembly elections in December will be used for Lok Sabha polls.

The district covers five Lok Sabha constituencies. Chevella and Malkajgiri are within the district limits where as Ibrahimpatnam Assembly constituency comes under Bhuvangiri Parliament constituency. Assembly constituencies of Shadnagar and Kodangal come under Mahbubnagar district and Kalwakurthy Assembly constituency is under Nagarkurnool district.
