50-bedded government hospital sans X-ray ultrasound
Malkajgiri:The 50-bedded government hospital in Malkajgiri was opened to public last September. However, the hospital still awaits basic amenities such as X-Ray and ultrasound equipment. Poor patients and those in emergency cases are the biggest sufferers. Though the hospital has been running outpatient department with sufficient doctors for general, casualty, emergency, pediatrics, ophthalmology and other departments.
X-Ray and ultrasound equipment are the basic requirements in these cases to diagnose any ailment or injury. In their absence, doctors express helplessness and are referring patients to either Gandhi Hospital or to private diagnostic centers. An official, on condition of anonymity, said: “We have radiologists but we don’t have the radiology equipment. We have intimated the authorities concerned twice but they have not responded.
He said necessary arrangements will be definitely made in a few days. In case of accidents or emergency cases, currently we are referring patients to Gandhi Hospital to avail services.” The new hospital could turn a boon to residents in nearby localities if the hospital is fully operational.
Even in accident cases, where every second counts to save lives, they have to be rushed in ambulances to Gandhi Hospital located 10 km away from Malkajgiri Hospital after negotiating heavy traffic. Apart from radiology services, basic specialty service and doctors are available for the residents. It is the only hospital that has MDR (Multi-drug-resistant) and Swine flu ward.
