GHMC will revamp 17k manholes: Dana

Hyderabad: For easy flow of traffic and for the convenience of road users and for smooth flow of storm drain water during monsoon, the GHMC is sanctioning Rs 20 crore to make all the manholes in equal level along with the roads, stated M Dana Kishore, GHMC Commissioner, in a press release on Friday.In GHMC limits, out of 9,000 km of roads, around 2,000 km length are main roads and approximately around 17,000 manholes are there, out of which 8,000 pertains to GHMC and 9,000 of HMWS&SB.

In a review meeting with officials of HMWS&SB & GHMC discussions were held on manholes which were meant for sewerage, catch pits, storm water drains purposes, likewise maintenance chambers were for drinking water purpose. As the manholes were at uneven level, either high or low or below the road, it was causing a lot of inconvenience to the road users, said the Commissioner.The Commissioner said that similar review meetings were conducted in the last two weeks and engineers have been given instructions to use high quality of metal etc., heavy duty manholes to be taken up with metal ring all around maintaining quality for proper level of the road.

First, 2,000-km roads would be taken up and based on the results, other road works would be taken up, informed the Commissioner.The tender process would be completed by February and works will be taken up which would be completed before the onset of monsoon. Instructions have been given to the engineers concerned to strictly implement the rules to be followed by contractors like minimum liability, said the Commissioner.
