Mir Alam Tank: GHMC Commissioner Dana Kishore instructed officials to commence the works for the revival of Mir Alam Tank. He was speaking at a meeting with the officials of GHMC engineering, biodiversity and lakes departments to review the progress of development works at the tank.  On January 25, the commissioner, along with Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi and GHMC Additional Commissioner Hari Chandana, made a field visit to the tank to decide on measures to be taken to revive the tank.

The works for the revival of the tank will be taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 40 crore. He ordered the authorities to complete the tender process before February 15 and commence the works before February 20. He ordered officials to take the help of Hyderabad revenue authorities in identifying encroached lands around the tank. Six assistant engineers were specially allocated to survey encroachments and to remove them at the earliest, he said.

Dana Kishore asked the officials of biodiversity department to beautify the six-acre park at the tank with lighting, Deccan-style paintings, open gyms, fountains, a mini science park, sculptures reflecting local culture, pictures and others. In order to prevent polluted sewerage water going into the tank, modern Bio Phyto STPs, using latest technology that is being used in Malaysia and Thailand, will be established at the tank, he said.

The water board would prepare a master plan on the use of STPs and prevent sewage water from entering the tank, he said. Dana Kishore ordered the lakes department of GHMC to take up the works related to strengthening of bund, fencing, pathway lighting, greenery and beautification.
