Miyapur: The ‘Ghar ki Biryani’ contest, orgainsed by The Hans India and sponsored by Goldivia, reached Sri Lakshmi Krishna Paradise, Widia Colony in Miyapur, on Sunday, giving the colony residents an opportunity to socialise and savour the biryanis, home-cooked by their neighbours.
The city’s famous dish, dum ki biryani, and many other varieties were brought out from the kitchens of participating housewives and were opened up in the community space in the ground, as the flavoured, spicy and biryani aromas rose and engulfed the colony buildings, the residents were seen coming down to the event gleefully.

The residents of the two wings of the building ecstatically interacted with their neighbours and wondered whether they would get an opportunity to taste the lip-smacking biryanis. One of the residents said, “We hardly get a chance to meet each other even though we live in the same building. Mostly, it is the children who celebrate festivals and sports, but the elders never get an opportunity to meet, and therefore, the ‘Ghar ki Biryani’ contest is a unique contest where the parents and aged get a chance to meet.

We thank The Hans India and the sponsors for coming out with such a beautiful concept where the colony housewives get opportunity to showcase their cooking talents.”Around 30 women came out with their best biryanis (veg and non-veg) and presented them before the judge chef K Karunakar. After savouring a spoonful of biryani from each platter, Karunakar said, “This would be a very tough decision as each biryani had a unique taste.”  Finally, he announced Vijaylakshmi as the winner in the veg category and Farheen Khan as the winner in non-veg category.

A beaming Vijaylakshmi said, “I was very surprised when the chef announced my name, I didn’t expect I will win today. I feel like I won the finale. I will try hard and give my best in the finals.”
Farheen said, “I made fish biryani as it is a very famous dish in our Madhya Pradesh, and I saw that my dish was different from others. I was the only one who made fish biryani and somewhere I felt that I will win. I will practise more and give my best in the finals. Also, I want to thank The Hans India for organising this event and my husband for motivating me.” All the participants were all praise for the organisers for giving them such a unique opportunity.
