Biryanis songs games give festive fervour to colony
Vanasthalipuram: “Ghar ki Biryani” contest organised by The Hans India has been winning accolades from colony after colony where the event was being held. On Wednesday, Prashanth Nagar Colony at Vanasthalipuram, was no different, the residents showered praises and laurels for organising such a unique event that brings out hidden talent of housewives in cooking special delicacies when given a platform to them.
An aura of positivity and zeal to achieve something descended on the colony premises as the participating women brought out their home cooked biryanis (veg and non-veg) onto the contest arena. Even as anxiety of winning gripped the housewives who showcased their culinary skills by presenting tempting varieties of non-veg and veg biryani delicacies home cooked by them, the event turned out to be a great social time for the residents and their guests who indulged in singing songs and playing games during the contest.
Chef K Karunakar, faculty from Regency College of Hotel Management & Catering Technology, Khairatabad, appreciated the efforts taken by the housewives in cooking mouth-watering biryanis in the “Ghar ki Biryani” contest. He said, “I would like to thank The Hans India for organising such an amazing event, I’m very fortunate I got an opportunity to be a judge at the event and after tasting so many biryanis I’m in love with the homely essence these biryani present that seldom get to taste in hotels.”
Aruna, the colony in-charge of the gathering, said “I attended the previous contest as a spectator and I was pleasantly surprised to see so many housewives taking part and having a great time, so I approached the management team after the contest and requested them to organize a similar event in this colony. I want to thank The Hans India for accepting my request and giving an opportunity for the housewives to show their culinary skills as there are very few such events that are dedicated for housewives.
” The participants presented their best cuisines in front of chef Karunakar, out of which, P Aruna was adjudged winner in the non-veg category with her flavoured prawn biryani and Swarna Sree bagged the first prize in the veg category for cooking tasty unique jackfruit biryani aka (Kathal ki Biryani) which was very different from others and very tough to cook as well.
The veg winner Swarna Sree said,” I made jackfruit biryani. The specialty of the dish is that it looks exactly like chicken biryani. You have to taste it to know the difference between them. I was sure of winning this because of my unique dish. I learned it from youtube a few days back and was planning to cook this for the past many days that’s when I came to know about this contest, so I decided I will prepare this dish and present it to the judges.”
Whereas an astonished Aruna never expected to win with her simple prawn biryani. She said,” I did not expect I will win this, I cooked this with just simple homemade masalas and fresh prawns. It is very healthy and my kids love this dish a lot and that’s why I decided to present it here for the contest.”
