Drain overflow perturbs residents in Subhash Nagar
Quthbullapur: The incidents of people washing away in overflowing drains during heavy rains are not new to the locals here. The Subhash Nagar drain is one of such nalas posing threat to the local people. Instead of taking precautionary measures, the concerned officials are turning blind eye to the deteriorating conditions here. The officials did not care even when a house was constructed on the bund of nala.
The locals took the issue to the officials and complained about the encroachment. Assistant city planner and section officer also inspected the place and took note of the situation. But, the encroachers continued their construction. Reacting to the development, TRS Division President of Subhash Nagar Devagari Rajender Reddy criticised the officers for surrendering to political pressure. He demanded that all the encroached structures, along the drain, should be demolished immediately.
He lamented that the 40 feet drain was reduced to 30 feet. People’s representatives are not allowing officials to discharge their duties, though there are clear orders that no construction should be taken up near the drain, he said.The locals also expressed their concern that their area may be inundated in the event of heavy rain. They demanded immediate action against the encroachers and to remove the illegal structures.
