JNTU-H to hold conference on urban water management

Hyderabad: A three-day international conference on Hydrology and Water Management focusing on ‘urban water management for sustainable development' will be held between February 12 and 15 at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad (JNTU-H).Disclosing the details here on Saturday, Prof C Sarala, conference convener and Head of Centre for Water Resources (CWR), JNTU-H Institute of Science and Technology said, nearly 100 technical presentations are expected to be presented during the three-day conference. 

Experts from IITs, NITs, Research Institutions, Universities from India and abroad on various issues of water and environmental issues focusing on the sustainability of urban water supply will be the focus during three plenary sessions and eight technical sessions spread over three days, she added.More than 200 delegates are expected to participate in various parts of the world.  Dr S K Joshi, Chief Secretary, will be chief guest and inaugurate the three-day conference on February 12 evening at 4 pm.

Prof A Venugopal Reddy Vice-Chancellor JNTU-H and former Professor of IIT Dr K Subramanyam will be the guests of honour and Dr N Yadaiah, Registrar JNTU-H, will preside over the inaugural function. Prof P G Sastry, former Chairman for the Clearance of River Valley Projects Government of India will be presenting a colloquium on “Education for Sustainable Development” on February 13, at 6 pm. 

Prof Sarala said that a panel discussion is scheduled on February 15 at 2.30 PM. The conference also has pre-conference workshop on “Geospatial Applications on Water Resources” on February 12, at 9.30 am and post-conference technical tour to Mallaram Water Works of HMWS&SB on February 16.
