Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board is planning to adopt GPS technology to check the misuse of water tankers. Officials are already implementing the Automated Vehicle Tracking System (AVTS) in free tankers. They decided to implement this system for almost 800 tankers in the city. Officials are developing an application that would enable the residents to track the tanker right from booking to delivery of water. Officials set up surveillance cameras, sensors at filling stations and they make sure that water is being supplied under the vigilance of Khairatabad head office.

The Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) are being invited from the interested agencies in this regard. After completion of the free bid meeting, the eligible applicant would be given the opportunity of maintaining GPS technology, operations, and maintenance for a period of five years.HMWSSB constructed more than 69 filling stations to fulfill the drinking water needs and 40 more stations are being set up by the board to serve the areas up to ORR. As much as 440 million gallons of water will be stored in water tankers and would be supplied to residents.

As many as 4,000 payment tankers and other 1,075 tankers are being supplied to residents and bastis. Water Board doesn’t have a proper system for accounting of how much water has been supplied through tankers and the amount of water supplied to the reservoir.By adopting this technology, the Water Board can be aware of water supply and can prevent water misuse.
