Kathi Kantha Rao’s biopic in the making
Nagole: Director VC Aditya who created a record of sorts by directing 100 short films in 100 days is busy helming a megaphone to the upcoming biopic on legendary Telugu actor Kantha Rao aka ‘Kathi Kantha Rao.’
Incidentally, the same movie maker had directed the actor when he was going through a bad phase in his final days. According to the director, the movie is going to be a befitting tribute to Kantha Rao who faced ups and downs both in personal and professional lives. The idea of making a biopic on Kantha Rao came to his mind when he read an autobiography on the legendary actor named ‘Anaganaga Oka Rakumarudu’.
According to Aditya, the interesting incidents happened in Kantha Rao’s life attracted him. Thus, the biopic became his brain child and he developed story and screenplay for it. Four songs have been recorded and except yesteryear actor, late Rajanala’s role, the casting for other roles has been completed. Akhil Sunny to play the lead role, and Bhasker has been casted as NT Rama Rao while Premkumar as Akkineni Nageswara Rao. Likewise, Kavuri Srinivas as SV Ranga Rao, Manasa as Savitri and Srinivas Karimnagar will play the role of yesteryear comedian Rajababu.
The director said that the biopic is being produced with crowd funding and the regular shooting will start at the end of February. The first schedule will be completed at Kodada and its surrounding place which happens to be the birth place of Kantha Rao. Most of the shooting will take place in Chennai (then Madras) where the legendry actor was at his peak stage in his career. His last days will be filmed in Hyderabad.
Aditya said that the movie will showcase the rise and fall of Kantha Rao without any distortion from which the present actors can learn a lot, he observed. Welcoming suggestions and inputs from the people in making the biopic more authentic, the director said that the movie would get a permanent place in the history of biopics. The director demands the State government to give subsidy for making the movie. The other demands include sufficient number of theatres and exemption from entertainment tax. Aditya said that the film chamber Ramakrishna Goud assured to allot 50 theatres to screen the movie. He hoped of getting 50 more theatres in reaching the biopic to the moviegoers.
