Bayyaram (Mahabubabad): The 36-hour Deeksha of Congress leaders for steel plant ended here on Thursday. It may be mentioned here that Yellandu MLA Banoth Haripriya Naik and others launched a 36-hour Deeksha on Wednesday demanding the Central government to set up an integrated steel plant at Bayyaram fulfilling the assurance made in the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014. Haripriya Naik ended her hunger strike by taking lime juice from the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.

Speaking at the hunger strike venue, Bhatti said that Congress will continue its fight against the Centre. “Neither the Centre nor the State government has any commitment to fulfill the assurance that largely helps the tribal communities. With the people’s support, the Congress would win the upcoming Parliament elections and establish the steel plant at Bayyaram,” Bhatti said.  He warned the State government not to instigate the Congress cadres by foisting false cases against them.

Former Rajya Sabha member V Hanumantha Rao, who extended his support to Yellandu MLA Banoth Haripriya Naik and other leaders’ Deeksha, expressed confidence that an integrated steel plant at Bayyaram would be a reality as the Congress is set to ascend to power after the forthcoming General elections.

Munugode MLA Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy, former Union minister Porika Balaram Naik and Tejavath Bellaiah Naik, All India Adivasi Congress vice chairman, among others were present.
