More Feed the Need events on key days
Hyderabad: Feed the Need, the innovative programme by GHMC to feed hungry people in the city, was successful as about 75,000 food packets were distributed at various places across the city on Thursday. Hyderabad Mayor Bonthu Rammohan expressed his happiness on success of the programme and congratulated the volunteers.
Started with a noble intention of driving away hunger from Hyderabad, an unprecedented programme was initiated for the first time among all the metros. Feed the need was ideated by GHMC and as part of the programme food packets were distributed at various points, such as railway stations, bus stands, major hospitals, main junctions and others crowded places, in 30 circles of the city.
The Mayor, GHMC commissioner Dana Kishore, EPTRI director general Kalyan Chakravarthy, zonal commissioners Hari Chandana, Musharaf Ali, representatives of voluntary organizations and officials attended the fight against hunger programme organised at Jubilee Hills Check Post. Serilingampally MLA Arekapudi Gandhi along with the Mayor attended the event held at Chanda Nagar, Anjaiah Nagar and other areas.
Addressing the event, Rammohan said that February 14 was mainly known as Valentine’s Day, but on this day, GHMC has initiated an innovative programme ‘Feed the Need to satiate the hunger of thousands of poor people. He thanked hoteliers, voluntary organisations and others who responded to his appeal and helped the city administration to distribute 75,000 food packets in a day.
Dana Kishore said that this programme would be continued and held on all the national holidays, Mothers Day, The State Formation Day and other important days to drive away hunger from the city and spread love and compassion. GHMC employees have volunteered in the program and distributed 5,000 food packets, he said. GHMC Additional commissioner Hari Chandana thanked the volunteers and GHMC officials and employees who participated in the programme and said that this would be continued up to late in the night.
Apart from GHMC, Apple Home, Robinhood Army, Deeksha Foundation and other voluntary organizations participated in the programme. Hotels Pista House, BV Manohar, Paradise, Swagath Grand, Daspalla have supplied food packets for the programme.
