Preparations at brisk pace for LS elections
Vikarabad: After successful completion of assembly and panchayat elections, the district administration is gearing up for Lok Sabha elections. On the directives of Election Commission, officials are making arrangements to set up 31 new polling stations. Besides, they have also started checking the function of EVMs and VVPATs.Tandur, Parigi, Vikarabad in the district and Chevella, Maheshwaram, Sherilingampalli and Rajendranagar in Rangareddy district fall under Chevella Loksabha constituency.
Returning officers have been already notified in every assembly constituency. In an attempt to avoid the mistakes committed in previous polls, officials have reduced the number of voters per polling booth. They have decided to allot 1,300 voters to each urban polling station and 1,100 voters to each rural polling booth. In the past, there were 1,400 voters under each urban booth and 1,200 voters per each rural booth. With the addition of 31 polling booths, the number polling stations in the district has increased to 1,126.
Bharat Electronics Limited engineers have been inspecting the EVMs and VVPATs for the last one week. They are making changes wherever necessary, and rectifying mistakes to ensure their foolproof functioning. Officials expect that this process will be continued in next 15 days.
It is learned that Parigi constituency will have the highest number of polling booths and Tandur will have least polling booths.
