Plea to act against illegal borewells
Yousufguda: Illegal borewells in the city are causing utter inconvenience to citizens and resulting in depletion of groundwater table. It is learnt that several people are drilling bore wells without securing proper permission from respective authorities. Some people from different colonies of Rahmath Nagar division are exploiting the groundwater by drilling illegal borewells. Dust and pollution emitted from drillings are causing hardships to the residents.
New houses are mushrooming in the division with soaring of the population. In order to construct a new house, bore well is mandatory to meet the water needs. As a result, people are digging borewells. But they are being dug 10 meters apart, whereas the recommended distance between bore wells is 250 meters.
Sound pollution and dust emission from digging bore wells are posing health risks to locals. As the borewell operations are conducted during night also, it is giving sleepless nights to them, they lament. As colonies are congested and lanes are not so spacious, bringing borewell machines is not being possible in some cases, without them snapping electric wires in the area.In the areas where groundwater is drilled at depths of 500 feet or more, there is a fear that sewage and drain water might enter the groundwater through gaps and then the whole point of having bore well will be gone, Ravi Prakash, a resident said.
The local also complain that most of borewells are being dug on Sundays. As it is the holiday for government offices, it is robbing people of their precious rest and peace, too. They demand that the government take stern actions against illegal borewells, or else the groundwater may dry up in near future.
