Priyanka Gandhi may not be able to campaign in Telangana State
Hyderabad: AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi may not visit Telangana State as she is campaigning in Uttar Pradesh. According to TPCC senior leaders, Priyanka’s campaign in the State is uncertain if the responsibility given to her in Uttar Pradesh is any indication. They said that AICC president Rahul Gandhi has given a tough assignment to Priyanka in UP where Congress is not in a good position.
They said that in the event of Priyanka contesting the Lok Sabha election from Amethi or Rae Bareli in UP, chances of her campaign in other parts of the country including Telangana would be slim.
A senior leader of the party said that the Congress has taken elections in UP seriously and Priyanka has been given the responsibility of eastern part of the State and Scindia the western part.
On the other hand, the Congress would launch nationwide campaign in the first week of March and Priyanka may confine herself to UP till the end of the campaign. Her visit to Telangana may be expected only if she gets some relief from the UP responsibilities since the Parliament polls would be held in several phases.
Like in the Assembly elections, the Telangana Congress is much dependent on the campaign of Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi. Rahul addressed six public meetings during the Assembly polls and Sonia one.
This time also, the PCC leaders hope that they would campaign for the party in the State. However, Sonia may not come due to her poor health and Priyanka is busy in UP. In the absence of Sonia and Priyanka, Rahul may have to take the complete responsibility of campaigning in Telangana.
As soon as Priyanka has been appointed as the general secretary of AICC, the PCC leaders had celebrated the occasion. They believed that Priyanka would be the trump card for the Congress in the State.
A party leader said that most of the scheduled caste people and Muslims still have affection for Indira Gandhi. Priyanka’s campaign in the State would remind them of Indira and it would help the Congress to reap good electoral benefits.
However, the AICC may not send Priyanka to Telangana due to various reasons. If she is sent to Telangana for campaign, similar demands would crop in other States and she may not be able to do justice the role given to her in UP.
