Babus vow to protect kids of migrant labourers
Hyderabad: Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh M Bhagwat and Rangareddy district collector Lokesh Kumar and Brick Kiln Owners’ Association collaborated with international NGO Aide et Action and organised a meeting on Friday to provide education and protection to migrant children, who are migrating to Telangana from neighboring Odisha State to work in the brick kilns. According to the Rachakonda Police Commissioner, Mahesh Bhagwat, since last two years the police have been working for the betterment of migrant labourers in the Rachakonda Commissionerate.
During last academic year as part of “Operation Smile” over 350 child workers were rescued and enrolled them in government schools with the help of NGO ‘Aide et Action’. Speaking on the occasion, Rachakonda Police Commissioner directed the brick kiln owners that they must allow the labourers to visit their native places during the emergency cases.Ranga Reddy Collector Lokesh Kumar said the brick kiln owners should follow rules and regulations and instructed them not to engage children in the kiln work places, as every child should be in school and every child has right to education.
“On behalf of the administration we will provide education, health, ICDS and sanitation facilities to the migrant families and children, As of now there are no anganwadi centres but now onwards will provide all the nutritious food and owners should arrange a place for setting up anganwadi centres, where children can come and sit comfortably,” the Collector added. Suresh Gutta, Regional Manager of Aide et Action spoke about welfare and education for the migrated children and asked all the brick kiln owners to provide free education and basic amenities to the migrant children.’’

We always try to help you to provide education, All the owners are providing mid-day meal to children, it’s a great initiative.’’ Officials from Revenue, Police and Labour departments and brick kiln owners participated in the programme.
