Need for research on disabilities in children

 Osmania University: There is a need for taking up research to identify and prevent various forms of  physical and mental disabilities in children aged up to five years, said  Osmania University MSW and Sociology department head Chinta Ganesh and OU Psychology BSO  Dr Swathi here on Sunday.

Dr Swathi was delivering the keynote address at a seminar on ‘Chinnapillala Manasika Samasyala Gurthimpu – Chikichha, Nirodhaka Vyuhalu’ (Recognising mental problems in children, treatment and prevention), which was jointly organised by Secunderabad PG College MSW and Holistic Health Foundation India, at OU Distance Education centre.

Both Dr Swathi and Ganesh stressed the need for doctors as also patients to take various protective measure from conception to delivery of a woman and to recognise early any problems.
They pointed out that even after birth of children the department’s intervention could be taken up to overcome the mental and physical disabilities. 

Among those present were coordinator Ravindra, Dr Ramulu, Dr Lingaswamy, MSW head Dr  Sridhar, Dr Jagdish, Dr Amar Jyothi, lecturers, students and child experts.
