State-level Kolatam competitions held

Bhadrachalam: Everyone should be encouraged to learn and practice folk dances, said president of Lions Club of Bhadrachalam Pakala Durga Prasad. On Sunday, he launched the State-level Kolatam Competitions at Government Junior College Grounds in the temple town.  Speaking on the occasion, he explained the history of Kolatam dance and how it has become famous besides appreciating the Bhadradri Kala Nilayam organisation for organising the event.

Bhadradri Kala Nilayam president G Venkateswara Rao said the only aim of the competition was to give a boost to the Kolatam dance in the temple town and with the support of other organisations and well-wishers, the competitions would be held every year. Informing that 10 teams have participated in the competitions, Rao said    Rudrampur Kolatam team won first prize and received a memento besides a cash prize of Rs 8,000.

While Karimnagar team bagged the second prize and received a memento along with Rs 4,000, Ambedkar Kolatam team from Bhadrachalam secured third and received a memento besides Rs 2,000 cash prize.   He added that the appreciation certificates were also distributed to 60 members of the participating teams.

Organisers CH Srinivas, Bhupathi Rao, Venkat Reddy, Motor Vehicle Inspector Venkat Pullaiah, noted persons from the town G Shanker Rao, Desappa, Tallapudi Ramu, SK Azeem and Kakarala Sharma and others attended the programme.
