Two persons jailed for harassing wives

Hyderabad: The district courts on Monday awarded two persons one-year imprisonment each for harassing their wives for dowry. Both the convicts were found guilty of harassing their wives physically and mentally.  

According to the Neredmet police, K Kavitha (32) had lodged a complaint stating that, she and K Ankama Rao Goud (36) got married in the year 2005. At the time of marriage, an amount of Rs 5,00,000, some tolas of gold and 100 square yards of house site plot were given towards dowry as demanded by the bride groom.  The accused got addicted to alcohol and used to harass her mentally and physically. On the instigation of his mother (complainant’s mother-in-law) harass her and two daughters to bring additional dowry.

On the receipt of the complaint Neredmet police arrested the accused and filed charge sheet in the XX MM Court at Malkajgiri which convicted K Ankama Rao Goud  and awarded one-year imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 under 498(A) IPC and Section 3 & 4 DP Act.  In another similar case, complainant Basva Raju Sandhya (27) was married with Sai Krishna in 2013.  

At the time of marriage, an amount of Rs 6 lakh was given towards dowry and spent Rs 4 lakh was spent for marriage expenses. Later, the accused started harassing her mentally and physically for more dowry.

On the receipt of complaint, Saroornagar police had arrested the accused and filed a charge sheet in the XIV MM Court at LB Nagar which convicted Sai Krishna and handed out 1-Year imprisonment and imposed fine Rs 2,000 under 498-A, 506 IPC and Section 3 & 4 of D.P Act of WPS.
