Secondary Grade Teachers seek promotion, implementation of GO 15

Mahbubnagar: All the Secondary Grade Teachers (language pandits) across all the mandals in erstwhile Mahbubnagar district had taken up the mass protest on Thursday demanding the State government to immediately implement the GO 15 issued by it earlier, which calls for promotion of SGTs as School Assistants.

It can be recalled that last year during the ‘World Telugu Mahabsahalu’ held in Hyderabad, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had promised to upgrade the posts of all SGT language pundits to School Assistants (SAs). As part this, the CM recently released GO 15, and issued orders stating that all those language pundits who had been appointed long back to be promoted as SAs.

However, as some of the other SGTs, who are already having qualifications to be upgraded as SAs and who are waiting for promotions ever since, were aggrieved with the State government’s GO and had approached the High court and petitioned questioning the GO 15.

They contended that despite having required qualifications they were not given promotions, but the language pundit SGTs who have no adequate qualifications were being upgraded as School Assistants, which they felt was unjust on the part of the government.

Based on the petition, the High Court has directed the State government to keep the GO on hold until the case is resolved.  Accordingly, the government has put the GO in abeyance.

Protesting against this, the SGT language pundit candidates across all mandals of erstwhile Mahbubnagar district gave a call for a protest against the government for putting the GO on hold and demanded the government to immediately implement the GO by bringing an ordinance.

“We are demanding the State government to bring an ordinance and implement the GO 15 issued by it to upgrade the entire language pundit SGTs. We have called for a district-wide protest and pressed the government to stand on its word. We feel the government is issuing GOs without taking into considerations the legal tangles.

And now, they have halted the GO. We demand the government before issuing any GO they need to study the pros and cons and ensure that all legal hurdles are cleared, otherwise, it will be looked as only a political gimmick to gain the sympathy of teachers.

If the government is really sincere we demand it to bring an ordinance and keep its word,” said the protesting Language Pundit SGTs at ZPHS government school in Badepally of Jadcherla mandal.
