Dreams Crash: Rapid Increase In Divorce Rates In Telugu Community In The U.S

 When it comes to marriage they think of their motherland. An overwhelming number of indians settled abroad import spouses from back home. While several transnational marriages work well, an alarming large number from Telugu community in he U.S is witnessing a rapid increase in divorce rates among its young NRI populace.

But what is the cause?

Counsellors, and Social groups say a complex Web of Issues is causing this marital imbalance. Main causes behind the scene are Domestic voilence, Dowry harrassment, Immigration related fallouts, Incompatability, Toxic Habits, Lying, Not communicating. When a break up initiated it usually happens because two people are not compatabile for the long term. They hold un realistic expectations towards each other is one of the major reasons.

There are instances where couples have married only so that one of them gets a Green Card.

According to  a Survey conducted in recent times in United states, Telugu Association Divorces have see a skyrocketing rise up 100% in recent times.

Their Volunteers say they recieve atleast 20 to 30 distress calls from Bickering partners every month.

where the count was limited to 5 to 10 earlier.

More than 80% of the cases the counsellors handle are from are due to immigration issues. As the government is screwing on Visas and prolonging the process of securing a Green Card. Many couples are finding it difficult to live in  strained relationships.

Harassment and Violence are at a sprawling rate in United States among Indians.

General Secretary of Telugu Association of North America that has 40,000 members. Given the steep rise in calls for help, the group has launched a Mahila Raksha cell to assist Women in distress. They dont indulge in counselling. Their main objective is to offer guidance to the individual-on how to go about with the divorce proceedings-and connect them to the right people. If the woman is in a helpless condition without a home, they help her finding a shelter and monetory support if required.  Total population in the US is at around 6 lakhs .According to the Secretary, 95 percent of the calls recieved are from Women.
