‘Sipahi Ki Maa’ at Lamakaan
Call it coincidental or otherwise, the Hyderabad cultural scenario has had regular depictions of real time issues related to lives of our soldiers in 2019. Mind you, this is not just on national holidays like Republic Day. Reflecting the political environment and its horrific outcomes like the Pulwama attack, various groups, even music-based ones have done their bit to showcase their sensitivities.
After a city-based group Dakshin Dhwani paid its tributes during two of its recent programmes in January and February, now comes a play ‘Sipahi Ki Maa’, written by legendary writer Mohan Rakesh, doing its bit for the cause.
According to the promo material, it is a play which portrays the pain of a mother who eagerly waits for her son to get back home. Her son is a sipahi (soldier) who went for a war. Condition at the war place is very tough. The rest of the story is whether the mother sees her son again and how Sipahi fulfils his responsibilities. This play is to be staged on March 2 by Manch Theatre, which was formed in Infosys, Hyderabad as a hobby club for theatre enthusiasts. Over the years, this group has gained in prominence in the local theatre circuit and has been the recipient of many awards, including the Nandi Natakotsavam, organised by Andhra Pradesh government. With the war-like scenario still a live threat at our country’s borders, this play should be able to strike a chord with the public, one hopes.
