Hanamkonda: The role of National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers is immense in the development of rural areas, Kakatiya University (KU) Vice-chancellor Prof R Sayanna said.

Speaking at a one-day workshop on ‘Rural Community Engagement for NSS Programme Officers’ presided over by NSS Coordinator Sunkari Jyothi here on Tuesday, the V-C said that NSS volunteers play a massive role in compiling information about the problems faced by the people in rural areas.

“A questionnaire that records the details of rural lifestyle, reach of government programmes and welfare schemes to rural folk etc should be prepared and a survey need to be conducted by the NSS volunteers to help the administration,” Prof Sayanna said.

Mahatma Gandhi National Council for Rural Education State official B Prabhakar said that they have plans to organise a seven-day faculty development programme under community engagement.
