Hyderabad: Aiming to continue the record of power outage-free state for the consecutive fourth year in the country, Telangana state has geared up to meet the energy demand for domestic, agriculture and industry needs in the ensuing summer. It is expected that the power demand will touch an all-time high of 11,000 MW this summer.

Round-the-clock free power supply to agriculture and uninterrupted domestic and commercial supply has already put the energy consumption as high as 10,500 MW during the peak hours on Tuesday.“All necessary arrangements were being made to meet the power demand this summer. With the increasing temperatures in the day time, power consumption in the domestic sector has already gone up in the last one week.

The power consumption has already crossed 200 million units (MU) in the beginning of the summer and it will go up to 250 MU in the coming days. It was 169 MU per day in 2016-17 and 179 MU in 2017-18,” said TSGenco and Transco chairman and managing director D Prabhakar Rao. He said that the required power will be purchased from the national power exchange.

The Genco officials were instructed to generate power in the local thermal power generation plants at optimum levels so that the gap between demand and supply can be bridged during the peak hours. The power utilities were also directed to conduct a study on power demand in domestic, agriculture and industrial sectors in their jurisdiction and also taken necessary steps to contain the transmission losses by upgrading the transformers instantly.
