Update: 2019-03-08 05:30 IST

A new public park of GHMC is getting ready in Mir Alam Tank as a tribute to Mir Alam Bahadur, the erstwhile Prime Minister of Hyderabad State (1804 - 1808), during the reign of Asaf Jah III, the third Nizam. Mir Alam laid the foundation for the tank in 1804 and it was completed in about two years in 1806.  The present park is spread around 8 acres of land and boasts of open-air gym and science games for kids, a soon to be finished cycling track and many more attractions. It is an effort in recreating the glorious past of the city with its lush gardens and public spaces.

Adding to its beauty are also vibrant mural paintings and sculptures. A portrait of Mir Alam is the center of attraction on the walls that are painted within Mughal designs of arches and floral motifs. Well known artist from the city, Y Shivarama Chary’s work is one of the main sculptures right in front of the portrait, titled ‘Golden Flowers’.

His sculptures have adorned significant public and private spaces in and around Hyderabad. Talking about this particular artwork, he says that, “It is an edition piece of my earlier sculpture made for Yahoo office in Bangalore. The GHMC authorities liked it so much that they commissioned a similar piece for the upcoming Mir Alam park.”

Explaining the concept, Shivarama says, “I utilised spare auto parts for creating a futuristic motor bike that has wings on a wheel. The bike represents the development of the city into a more citizen friendly place and golden flowers are symbolic of bio-diversity with its balance that the park will allow to sustain.”

The artist believes that the park will be an added attraction to already existing zoological park in the area and Mir Alam tank nearby and will benefit the public in maintaining good health and environment.
