AS Rao Nagar, fastest growing hub in city

  Hyderabad: In the last one year, more than 10 branded lifestyle and electronic stores have come up on the A S Rao Nagar to ECIL stretch. In 2012, global real estate consultancy firm Cushman & Wakefield in a study stated that the steepest hike in rentals across the country was witnessed in A S Rao Nagar. Six years down the line, the rentals have only gone up several notches making it the most-sought-after area.

Named after Ayyagari Sambasiva Rao, founder of Electronic Corporation of India (ECIL), the colony too has now become a model. Dr A S Rao was instrumental in forming ECIL Employees Cooperative House Construction Society Limited in 1976 for the benefit of employees of Department of Atomic Energy, ECIL, NFC and TIFR. 

A S Rao Nagar Colony 
The society’s aim was to provide own house to each employee working in ECIL and NFC. The colony was created in an area of 116.38 acres. It was divided into LIG, MIG and HIG. The colony was designed with 1,075 plots with a 12 km road. There are 1,020 houses with a population of 12,000. 

All facilities were created to avoid residents to move other places.  Community hall with AC function hall on the name of Dr Homi J Babha, railway reservation counter, post office, Mee Seva Center, library, school building, spacious parks with walking tracks, Mahila Mandali builiding, Senior Citizens’ Club, Generic medical shop were established in coordination with the GHMC.  The Association of AS Rao Nagar has been conducting annual science competition to the students where the winners were given prizes on the name of Dr AS Rao. Speaking to The Hans India, association president Vijay Kumar along with secretary Somayya, said that they were striving hard to develop the colony as a model one. GHMC officials came forward to establish a gym park at a vacant place. 15 CCTV cameras were arranged at main junction so far. Another 16 cameras will be installed in the near future. They said that the drinking water and drainage problems were solved after replacing the old pipe lines with new ones. They also said that the function hall with lowest charges was also available for outsiders. The Association representatives said that they would develop the colony with the help of local corporator and legislator.
