Officials gearing up for municipal polls

 Vikarabad:  Officials are gearing up for conducting municipal elections after directions were received to complete the elections by May 31. Director, Municipal administration and State Election Commission directed Commissioners to work on the voter list.
  
Publication of voter list has been stopped temporarily after Court issued a stay on merger of panchayats in Vikarabad. There are two old and two new municipalities in Vikarabad district.  Officials are hoping that there won’t be an election for Vikarabad municipality. It is known that Kompally, Narayanpur, Dannaram, Burgupalli, Chittempalli, Gudupalli, Girigetpalli were merged in Vikarabad.

Leaders of the villages approached High Court requesting not to merge in the town. The Court issued a stay on conducting the elections. The election for the town will be conducted only when the stay is vacated before the notification. 
  
Except for Vikarabad, the staff is busy working in Tandur, Kodangal, and Parigi municipalities to conduct the elections following 

directions of the EC. The term of ruling bodies in municipalities will end by July. The EC has expedited up the process in view of the stipulation that election must be held three months in advance.

Notification will be released in the first week of May as the Election Commission has decided to complete the election by end of May. 
 
The Election Commission has released draft list earlier, after corrections they will publish a temporary list on March 16. Objections will be received from March 17-20.
 
The officials will verify the objections raised by the people and hold meeting with representatives of people on March 18 and 19 at district- level and municipal level respectively and explain about arrangements being made for the election.

The final voter list will be published on March 27. The process may get delayed due to Lok Sabha elections. Identification of polling centers will be completed by the second week of May.
