Warangal: The District Collector, Amrapali Kata, appealed the citizens to actively participate in Swachh Survekshan-2018 survey to achieve better ranking for Warangal city. She flagged off Swachh Survekshan 5K Run at National Institute of Technology (NIT) here on Wednesday.
The run, which was conducted jointly by Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) health wing and National Service Scheme, concluded at Public Gardens in Hanamkonda. Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Amrapali asked the public to download the Swachhata App and to upload photos related to sanitation issues. The corporation officials would address the issues within 24-hours.
The third round Swachh Survekshan survey conducted during this January and February months covers 4,041 statutory towns in India. It helps the public to fully understand the need of cleanliness and developmental activities being implemented to ensure hygienic living conditions in the city.
The public could make use of a toll-free number: 1969 to get connected with the corporation’s officials towards maintenance of better sanitation conditions in their surroundings. Out of 432 educational institutions, Swachhata Committees were formed in 250 institutions, she said.
Amrapali directed the officials concerned to constitute committees at the remaining institutions in the next two-days in order to educate the students about the importance of cleanliness and construction of sanitary latrines in each household, she noted.
Public toilets have been built at important junctions and locations for the use of those visiting the city daily from towns and villages. Similarly, separate toilets for men and women have been constructed at all petrol bunks, the Collector noted, adding the city was already declared open-defecation free (ODF).
Swachh Survekshan survey conducted as part of Swachh Bharat Mission aimed to rank cities on various sanitation and cleanliness parameters and finally to achieve Swachh Bharat by October 2, 2019, the collector pointed out.
