Hanamkonda: Warangal District Congress Committee president Nayini Rajender Reddy said the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government made the local bodies obsolete in its three-and-a-half-year rule.

Speaking to media persons here on Monday, he accused Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao of diluting the local bodies by curtailing funds to them. “K Chandrashekar Rao launched Grama Jyothi and Mana Vuru, Mana Pranalika amid much fanfare but did not accord even a single paise,” he alleged.

The Chief Minister virtually turned the elected representatives of the local bodies into dummies without releasing funds, he added.

Reddy accused the TRS government of trying to conduct elections to local bodies even before the term of present bodies. He demanded that the government not conduct elections to local bodies until July.

He stated that the Congress was against the proposal of the new election system for sarpanches. He said indirect election to elect sarpanches would pave the way for irregularities and horse trading.

He said the Congress will move with an action plan to thwart the plans of the State government. The party will pass resolutions against the government’s proposed move and hand them over to panchayat secretaries on January 23.

In this regard memorandums will be submitted to constituency-level Revenue officials on January 27 and to District Collectors on January 30, he said. Senior leaders Katla Srinivas Rao, Namindla Srinivas, EV Srinivas Rao, Kothapalli Srinivas and P Vijay were among others present.
