Process of KU PhD admissions is open to public scrutiny: VC

Hanamkonda: In the wake of serious protests by students over alleged irregularities in the recent Ph D admissions in Kakatiya University, the university authorities have maintained that the entire process of admissions is open for scrutiny.

It may be noted that several student organisations have been on war path for the past few days, demanding cancellation of Ph D admissions. On Tuesday night, a large group of students laid seize to Deputy Chief Minister K Srihari residence at Teachers Colony in Hanamkonda, seeking an order to probe into the admissions process.  

In view of such demands, the KU Vice-Chancellor Prof R Sayanna and Registrar Prof Prof K Purushotham told presspersons here on Wednesday that the Ph D admissions are done in a very transparent way as per UGC guidelines.

In the process of admissions conducted under the chairmanship of the respective deans of faculties, the prescribed norms have been followed carefully without any kind of deviation. The candidates need not have any doubt regarding the admissions.

Giving details of the admissions, Prof Sayanna said, about 7,332 students appeared for the entrance test in 31 disciplines. A total of 3,155 students got qualified for interviews. So far, a total of 338 were admitted into 28 disciplines. Of the total 338 candidates given admissions, 39 seats were allotted under OC, 32 under BC-A, 75 under BC-B, 5 under BC-C, 62 under BC-D, 12 under BC-E, 60 under SC, 33 under ST and 4 under PHC quota. Under women reservation, 115 women candidates have got admissions.  

Explaining the admissions process, the V-C said the admissions were made completely based on the merit of marks secured in entrance test (100 marks), academic record (25 marks) and performance in interview (25 marks). The results along with marks have been uploaded on university website.

Allotting of guides for selected candidates will be done by the departmental research committee. There is no need for candidates to approach any teacher for guidance. The admissions in chemistry, public administration and HRM and computer sciences are underway, he added.

 “We are ready to examine and take action on complaints on specific admission with substantial proof and candidates should come to me with specific objections for verification,” Prof Sayanna asserted.

 Referring to a demand by a section of students, who wanted Ph D admissions to those, who took part in separate Telangana movement, the vice-chancellor made it clear that such demand cannot be considered as it goes against the UGC guidelines.The university public relations officer V Krishnama Charya present at the press meet.
