Shifting of Madikonda dumping yard demanded
Warangal: The issue of shifting Madikonda dumping yard and problems of the villages merged into GWMC dominates and complaints by corporators over lack of response from officials on development issues dominated the GWMC general body meeting.
The general body meeting held here on Friday was chaired by Mayor N Narender. The body approved nine items on agenda and an additional item on the agenda wherein it was proposed to increase the water tap connection charges was deferred by the council members.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Mayor Narender and Municipal Commissioner Shruti Ohja wanted the presspersons to leave the meeting hall and went ahead with the proceedings after the media left the hall.
Opposition party corporators V Srinivas, Thotla Raju, L Mounika Charan, R Rama and Swathi Reddy have staged a demonstration for some time by displaying placards highlighting various issues in their respective municipal divisions.
Raju wanted immediate shifting of Madikonda dumping yard as it was causing health and environmental hazards; Mounika Charan wanted the corporation to resolve the problems related to 42 villages that were merged into the GWMC.
Srinivas wanted the officials to follow the citizen charter strictly for time bound delivery of services while Swathi Reddy complained that there was no progress related to the works under the CM’s Rs 300 crore special budget to Warangal.
The ruling party corporators J Ramesh, Ch Yadagiri, Boda Dinna and many others have accused the corporation officials of not responding to their complaints on development works in their divisions.
The corporators said that they were unable to answer the public, who elected them. ‘Despite many representations, there was poor response from officials and their attitude was troubling us,’ they added.
The Mayor told the officials to respond quickly to the issues put forward by corporators. Effective coordination between officials and corporators was a must for the development of the city and to deliver better services to the citizens. MLAs K Surekha and D Vinay Bhasker wanted the GWMC to withdraw the idea of hiking water charges.
