KTR promises to hike wages of GWMC sanitation workers
Hanamkonda: IT and Municipal Administration Minister K Taraka Rama Rao gave assurance on increasing the wages of public health (Sanitation) workers working under GWMC.
This he said during in interaction with the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation Mayor N Narender and Telangana Municipal Workers Union honorary president Gudimalla Ravi Kumar at Circuit Guest House in Hanamkonda on Monday.
It might be noted that the workers for the past few months have been demanding for an increase in their wages. The Mayor and the union leader have taken the issue to the notice of the Minister, seeking to address it.
Responding to their request, Minister Rama Rao said the State government would soon take a decision increasing the wages and the process would be completed before tabling the State budget in the ensuing budget session of the Assembly. The GWMC council has also passed a resolution during a general body meeting in 2017.
It was proposed to offer Rs 12, 500 to sanitary workers and Rs 13, 000 to sanitary jawans. The corporation would have to bear an additional expenditure of Rs 11.60 crore towards the enhanced wages per year. In all there were 2,302 sanitary jawans and workers working under the GWMC on outsourcing basis.
