Women empowerment possible by learning self-defence

Peddapalli: Stating that a few parents are forcing their daughters to get married, while they are still studying SSC or after completing it, District Collector Devasena said it is everyone’s responsibility to stop child marriages, which are rampant in the district.

Women and Child Welfare Department will track all the girls, appearing for SSC examinations. After the exams, both the girls and their parents will be given guidance about higher studies and career.

She along with Manthani MLA Putta Madhu attended as a chief guest at the International Women’s Day celebrations, organised by District Welfare Department at RCO Club in Godavarikhani on Wednesday.

The Collector inaugurated the celebrations by lighting the lamp. Devasena stated many women in the society are heading forward with self-confidence by facing lot of obstacles in their life and career.

Keeping in view of women’s health and to create awareness about the usage of clean sanitary napkins, arrangements were being made to import special machines from Jaipur for manufacturing napkins in the district, the Collector said.

She said that it is not possible for the police to save and protect the women and girls every time, they should learn how to protect themselves. For this purpose, coaching in self-defense will be given to all women and girls in the schools from June this year. Self-defense will improve self-confidence among women and they will be an able to face all kinds of odds in their life.

Organiser of Peddapalli and Jagtial district welfare department Mula Vijaya Reddy, district welfare officer Padmavathi, IPS officer Sharath C Pawar and other officials attended the programme. Girl students and women also participated in large numbers.
