Bhupalpally Collector's call to protect forests
Bhupalpally: Conservation of forests is a social responsibility and it’s important to create awareness about this among the people, Jayashankar-Bhupalpally District Collector D Amay Kumar said.
Flagging off a bike rally as part of ‘International Day of Forests’ here on Wednesday, he said that it’s a timely reminder of the important role of natural forests in the fight against climate change.
“Forests are significant carbon sinks. Fortunately, Bhupalpally is far richer than any other district in the State in terms of forest cover. The responsibility of protecting the natural habitats is also big on everyone living in the district,” the Collector said, pointing to the collective efforts.
He said the government is trying its best to increase forest cover in the State with its flagship programme, Haritha Haram.
DFO T Ravi Kiran said that the bike rally, which goes through Kondapur, Chelpur, Kamalapuram, Golla Buddharam and Rudraram, culminates at Koyyur under Malhar Rao mandal. The rally is aimed at creating awareness among the people about the importance of forests, he added.
“Forests are home to wildlife. We have ensured supplying water to the saucer pits to tackle drinking water problem for forest animals,” he said.
Earlier, Collector Amay Kumar inaugurated chalivendram (water kiosk), set up by forest department, in front of the Collectorate. DRO P Mohan Lal, forest division officer Saraiah and APRO Bikshapathi were among others present.
