Two-day Special Olympics Bharath concludes
Warangal: The two-day district level sports event for special children has witnessed enthusiastic participation by large numbers of children from different homes for mentally challenged children here on Friday.
The event titled ‘Special Olympics Bharath’ was organised by Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports under Khelo India Scheme at JNS grounds in Hanamkonda and inaugurated by commissioner of police V Ravinder on Thursday.
Nearly 250 children from Athidi Manovikas, Spandana, Bannu, Dattasai, Navyasri and other homes for mentally challenged children took part in the event. The valedictory of the sports event was conducted on Friday.
The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Secretary P Annie Rose Christian attended the valedictory and presented medals and certificates to the winners. Speaking on the occasion, she said stressed on the need of regular events like sports and games for the children to boost their confidence levels.
The DSLA secretary also wanted the parents of the children to encourage them to participate in sports so that they could body develop body and mind coordination by overcoming their shortcomings. She lauded the organisers of the homes for training the children and ensuring their participation in the event.
Special Olympics Bharath state coordinator C Rajashekar and district area coordinator B Ramaleela informed that the winners at the district level event would take part in the state level event to be held soon.
Indian Medical Association President Dr M Sudeep, district Youth and Sports Officer D Dhanalaxmi, Rotary Club of Hanamkonda and its president K Ramanuja Rao, the event in-charge K Kalyan, Dasyam Abhinav Bhasker, Prof. Padma and others were present.
