Tension prevails following removal of Pochamma idol in Mancherial
Mancherial: Tension prevailed at Srinivas Colony in Mancherial town on Sunday when revenue and police officials prevented the installation of Goddess Pochamma idol.
Colony resident Ramagiri Sripathi told The Hans India there was a small sized idol in their colony since several years. The colony people collected funds to install a big sized idol in its place. “When we are making all arrangements for the installation of the idol, the police and revenue staff intervened and removed the idol,” he lamented.
Sripathi said that they met the local MLA two days ago and invited him for the installation of the idol in their colony.
They MLA responded positively and assured of solving problems, if any, after speaking with the MRO. Sripathi said that the police and revenue officials not only stopped the installation programme, but they forcibly took away the idol. They pushed the women, who tried to stop them from taking away the idol, he alleged.
The colony residents said that the MLA, as per his word given two days ago, should get permission for the idol installation in the same place within two days. Otherwise, all the colony residents will stage protest at the place till permission was granted, they warned.
