Warangal: An assistant professor of ophthalmology, Dr Vaggu Sree Kumar, serving at Government Regional Eye Hospital (REH) in Warangal, is all set to enter into Wonder Book of Records International, which records exceptional achievements of individuals.
He has been chosen by Wonder Book of Records (WBR) for his achievement of performing Keratoplasty eye surgery (Corneal transplantation) also known as corneal grafting, a critical surgical procedure where a damaged or diseased cornea is replaced by donated corneal tissue.
Dr Kumar is the first Ophthalmogist to perform such a surgery at the REH since it was established three decades ago. “I have been performing such surgeries since one year and so far carried out nine surgeries, which otherwise are confined essentially to cities like Hyderabad,” he told The Hans India on Thursday.
“His achievement is significant in terms of gifting eye-sight to patients with defective vision. That is why we have decided to record his achievement in Wonder Book of Records,” said the WBR regional coordinator A Madhava Rao.
This year Dr Kumar also performed nearly 15 secondary an intraocular lens (IOL) cataract surgeries, involving complicated procedure, under topical anaesthesia in the cases, where first cataract surgery failed to give results.
The WBR coordinator Madhava Rao handed over the record approval letter to Dr Kumar in the presence of Kakatiya Medical College (KMC) principal Dr V Chandrashekar who responded saying “It is moment of pride for the college and he deserve it,” marking the ophthalmologist’s accomplishment.
