Warangal Zoo to get rare species tiger
Hanamkonda: Kakatiya Zoological Park located on Hunter Road in Hanamkonda is soon going to boast of a prized possession, tiger (Panthera tigris), the largest cat species.
The zoo authorities are now busy making arrangements for the arrival of tiger, one of the world's most beautiful, revered and feared predators and now on the brink of extinction. Construction of a tiger enclosure has already been started at the zoo.
The enclosure will have a moat, night shelter and open space, all enclosed by a metal fence. The works are going at brisk pace and are expected to be completed with a month or two, informed Warangal urban district forest officer (DFO), Arpana Syal.
She told The Hans India here on Thursday that some time back a proposal has been submitted to chief wildlife warden (CWW) seeking to equip the zoo park with a pair of tigers and the same has been intimated to Central Zoo Authority (CZA) as well.
Similarly, another proposal has also been submitted seeking a pair of lions. The CWW officials have consented to provide a pair of tigers. Following which, the works related to construction of enclosure taken up, the DFO said.
Soon after completion of tiger enclosure, a formal approval will be obtained from CZA for shipping the big cat pair, a tiger and a tigress to Kakatiya Zoological Park from Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad, Syal said, adding “Most probably tiger enclosure may be open for visitors by coming Dassera festival”.
It may be noted that a Leopard’s enclosure was inaugurated at Kakatiya Zoological Park in last March.Giving details of measures taken for the safe keep of different species of wild animals and birds at the zoo, the official said shade nets have been put up on birds’ enclosures with water sprinklers to make the environs cool.
Similarly, air coolers and bamboo thattis have been placed at the enclosures of leopard, bear, deer and other animals to help them face the summer heat. Recently, Children’s Park at the zoo has been renovated to ensure a pleasant atmosphere for the children visiting the park, she added.
“Tiger enclosure at Kakatiya Zoological Park will be a great attraction for the wildlife enthusiasts and common people visiting the park. Tiger, which is the national animal of India and many others like Malaysia and South Korea, will definitely attract crowds,” felt P Veerabhadra Rao of Vana Seva Society.
