Crack whip on sex determination centres

Hanamkonda: Zilla Parishad chairperson G Padma asked the district officials to crack the whip against hospitals and ultrasound scanning centres that were illegally conducting prenatal sex determination tests in erstwhile Warangal district.

She said though the law has made it illegal for medical practitioners to determine and reveal the sex of a foetus before the child’s birth, some hospitals and scanning centres at different parts of the old Warangal were conducting such tests.

Padma chaired the Zilla Parishad (ZP) general body meeting here on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, she wanted the officials to tighten the vigilance to curb the unethical practice of conducting sex determination as it was leading to unbalanced child sex ratio.

Discussions have taken place at the meeting on the measures for smooth distribution of pattadar passbooks and cash cheques to farmers under Rythu Bandhu Scheme and proper supply of drinking water in villages in view of summer season.

The ZP chairperson wanted the officials and elected representatives to work in coordination with each other to take the fruits of different development and welfare measures to the beneficiaries. Describing Rythu Bandhu Scheme as a unique one, she wanted all out efforts for its effective implementation.

MPs P Dayakar and B Prakash stressed on the need to ensure supply of drinking water to people living in villages. They said the State government was working for the betterment of lives of farming community by implementing many programmes and their fruits should reach genuine beneficiaries.

MLA Aroori Ramesh wanted the contractors executing Mission Bhagiratha works to rebuild the roads damaged to pipeline works. While laying pipelines care should be taken to avoid damage to roads to possible extent.

Where the roads were marked for widening, pipelines have to be laid on the boundaries of the road that would be widened in future so that there no damage would be caused when the road widening takes place, the MLA added.

Warangal Urban and Rural district collectors Amrapali Kata and M Haritha explained the steps being taken towards smooth distribution of pattadar passbooks and cash cheques to farmers. Bankers were told to make cash payments to farmers without any delay.

 Rural District Collector Haritha informed that 97 water sources were identified to supply water to the places that would face shortage and at some places bore wells were hired for the purpose. Giving details of Mission Bhagiratha progress, she said in Parkal assembly constituency bulk water testing was done in 140 villages.

Mahabubabad Collector Ch Sivalingaiah, Jayashanker Bhupalpally Collector D Amoy Kumar and Jangaon Collector T Vinay Krishna Reddy have presented the details of progress of Mission Bhagiratha and steps for the distribution of pattadar passbooks and cash cheques to farmers. ZP chief executive officer S Vijaygopal and others were present.
