Candidates sleep on traffic islands due to lack of accommodation
Hanamkonda: The district administrations’ failure to ensure temporary accommodation for the aspirants attending army recruitment rally has been forcing them to sleep on pavements and on traffic islands in the city.
It might be noted that the 10-day army recruitment rally has begun here on Tuesday at JNS Grounds in Hanamkonda. As many as 40,336 candidates have enrolled their names for the recruitment rally from 31 districts of Telangana under the Army Recruitment Office (ARO) Secunderabad.
The officials of GWMC, district administration, Warangal police commissionerate and the ARO held several meetings to review arrangements and claimed that they made elaborate arrangements such as erecting tents, drinking water, sanitation and facilities for the candidates to stay at JNS indoor stadium.
Nonetheless, the facilities for the candidates to stay at JNS indoor stadium were said to be insufficient.
Since the procedures of the rally beginning during early hours to avoid candidates suffering from summer heat, those attending the rally were arriving from faraway places in the evening and night time to be on time in attending selection process.
“We could not find any shelter and hence staying outdoors,” said Praveen Kumar, a degree final year student from Siddipet, Vijayakanth, a post graduate from Karimnagar and many others when contacted by The Hans India.
‘This reflects the negligence of district administration, GWMC and police department. They should have arranged accommodation at schools and colleges, which are free now in view of summer holidays,’ said an advocate P Veerabhadra Rao.
He also found fault with the civil society for not responding to the plight of the candidates attending the army recruitment rally with an intention to serve the nation. He appealed the members of the society to come forward to offer food, fruits and water to the candidates.
Meanwhile, a total of 3,046 candidates attended the recruitment rally on Wednesday and of them 314 candidates got qualified for medical test. The recruitment rally would continue till May 31.
