Govt to waive off weavers’ loans up to Rs 1 lakh: Karimnagar Collector
Karimnagar: The government decided to waive off handloom workers loan worth Rs one lakh, taken during the period 1 April 2010 to March 2017, said District Collector Sarfaraz Ahmed here on Friday.
The Collector held a meeting with the bankers to discuss about the loan waiver for the handloom workers here at the Collectorate conference hall in Karimnagar.Speaking on the occasion, the Collector suggested the bankers that as per the GO’s 243, 26 and 46 issued by the government, the loan up to Rs one lakh must be waived off along with the interest taken by handloom workers during the period from 2010 to 2017.
The Collector also suggested the bankers to prepare proposals related to waiving off loans taken by the handloom workers in the prescribed proforma along with sending it to the Joint Director of Handloom and Jute Department.
If any handloom worker paid the total loan amount that is taken during the period from 2010 to 2017 to the banks, then those workers will receive Rs one lakh. The Collector said the amount would be directly deposited into their bank accounts.
Joint Director of Handloom and Jute department Venkatesham, SBI Chief Manager Venugopal Reddy, SBI Manager CR M L N Murthy, UCO Bank Manager S W Vamana Rao, KDCC Bank Chief Executive Officer Sathyanarayana and other bankers were present.
