Warangal/Jangaon: The ongoing teachers’ transfer process is receiving much opposition from unlikely quarters, the students. The students at different schools in Warangal and Jangaon districts are approaching district education department officials and the district administration appealing them not to transfer their teachers.

Students and villagers from Mogilicherla on Thursday met district education officer K Narayana Reddy in Hanamkonda, urging him not to transfer E Sumadevi, the headmistress (HM) of Zilla Parishad Secondary School.

The HM completed six years service at the school and is supposed to be transferred as part of the general transfers. But the villagers and the students are against it. The reason is she developed the school, changed the mindset of the villagers towards government schools and their approach towards education as well.

They said the HM played a key role in establishing Village Education Development Committee, first of its kind in the State and is acting as lifetime advisor in the committee. The school established in 1950 was in dilapidated condition until she joined the school in 2012.

The committee president Maddela Narsinga Rao speaking to The Hans India, felt that after Sumadevi joined the school, it has become one of the best schools in the entire district as she transformed it with the assistance from local elected representatives and NGOs.

“When she joined the school, the strength was only 160 now it is 300. Because of her efforts, standards increased, and school is achieving 100 per cent results in SSC exams and last year four students got admission in IIIT,” he said.

“We do not want Suma madam go away from here. She is always there to help us and spends time even after school hours. Her loving nature and approach towards us made us to develop a strong bond with her,” said the students of the school - G Sai Varshita and M Pranavi.

Overcome by emotion, some students even cried while asking the DEO not to transfer their HM. The DEO promised the students that he will do his best to ensure the HM stays in the school and will take the matter to the notice of the school education commissioner.

In a similar manner, as many as 100 students of ZPPP, Station Ghanpur in Jangaon district, have recently submitted a memorandum to District Collector T Vinay Krishna Reddy, seeking not to transfer their Telugu teacher RN Ramadevi.

“Rama madam unearthed our creative talents and helped to win prizes at State and national-level. She is most affectionate towards us and inspires us. Hence, we do not want her to be transferred,” the students Srinivas and Rakesh said.
