Women excel in politics: Shaik Janimun

Update: 2018-03-09 04:22 IST

“Given a chance, women will excel in politics and will prove their talent. I am the living example for this. I studied B Sc (Computers); my family has no political background. I never imagined that I will become Zilla Parishad Chairperson. I never held any related posts like ZPTC, MPP or MLC.

I have directly become Zilla Parishad chairperson,” shares Guntur Zilla Parishad chairperson Shaik Janimun. “Women have to utilise facilities provided for them by the government and avail every opportunity to come up in the life,” she adds.

“My father Jani worked for gram panchayat elections. Around this time, the local people asked me to contest as ZPTC. I agreed, got the ticket, and was elected as ZPTC, despite tough competition.

Speaking to The Hans India, Janimun explained her efforts for women empowerment. “The Zilla Parishad is extending financial assistance to the Mahila Pranganam to impart training to women to improve their skills to get employment or create self-employment. I am giving importance to women empowerment. We have trained over 500 women in tailoring and pre-school.

Those trained in the pre-school secured teacher posts in private schools. Some of them are working as computer operators. In addition to this, Mahila Prangnam is imparting training to various courses. We have conducted training to women to run autos.

We have She Autos. The women learnt auto driving and are plying autos for their livelihood. Kapu Corporation, BC Corporation, Minority Corporation and other corporations are giving sewing machines to women for self-employment. The women trained in these courses will get job or create self-employment,” she says.

“If a woman is an earning person in the family, she will extend support to family. As a ZP chairperson, I participate in all the programmes from Macherla to Repalle and try to solve problems of women. I seek support from Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidum who extends cooperation. He also gives suggestions. Minister for Panchayat Raj and IT Nara Lokesh too cooperates in extending support to women programmes.”

“I am following in the footsteps of the Chief Minister. He gives top priority to education. ZP teachers are preparing answers for important questions for SSC students and distributing to the students. There is demand for ZP SSC study material in the district. We are giving snacks and milk to the SSC students during study hours.

Former president Abdul Kalam is an inspiration to me as he became the President of India because of extraordinary hard work. Whereever I go I inform people of all the programmes and facilities that government gives to women and tell them to utilise them,” she relates.
