Hands that cure, hearts that help: NGO - Rainbow in Karimnagar,
With a sheer passion to serve the society, a team of seven women doctors have been running an NGO – 'Rainbow' in Karimnagar, which is dedicated to catering the necessities of people who need a helping hand.
The team has been working rigorously from 2008 to improve the lives of people. “We all knew each other and had the same dream and the strong urge to spend time and money for the welfare of the society has brought us together and eventually we came up with this,” said Dr Akula Shailaja, founder.
These women spend a part of their income to fund their social welfare activities. “Besides, contributing around Rs. 2000 every month, we sometimes pump in more money depending on the requirement.
Recently, we installed a drinking water plant worth Rs 1 lakh, at the home for mentally challenged when we learned about the water crisis there,” she shared.
The NGO is now equipped with the medical infrastructure that helps in detecting cervical cancer and breast cancer and the services rendered are free. Apart from it, they also conduct medical camps at old age homes and nearby villages and give the patients free medicines.
The NGO also visits a blind school and donates musical instruments. “Depending on the interest of child we donate instruments to them and urge them to pursue their passion and scale the height of success,” she concluded.
