Quilling is an art form that involves the use of strips of paper that are rolled, shaped and glued together to create decorative designs. Prabhavathi tried a really different way to make the art even more attractive. She painted her designs and then used the quilling paper to give her paintings a more attractive look.
Speaking about how she got an interest in quill art Prabhavathi shared, “I was always interested in painting and tried different kinds of art, but from past two years I took an interest in quilling and started to learn it by watching videos online and soon had a grip on the art form.”
“When I started to combine painting with the quill art, it looked really good and I started gifting them to family and friends. When people noticed my art, they encouraged me and then I started to frame all my quill works.”
Prabhavathi is also AIDWA Mandal Secretary of Mudhigonda, Khammam. About showcasing her work at Hyderabad Fest, she said, “My colleagues encouraged me to exhibit my artworks. Being a teacher by profession I chose to re-use plastic and newspaper by making baskets and pen holders, which can surely help people to start re-using instead throwing away plastic that cannot be recycled.”
“Since Hyderabad Fest gave me an opportunity and recognised my work, I would further like to sell my paintings online,” she added.
