Clean and hygienic toilet is a woman’s right: Ganesh
Ganesh Venkatram who is the South brand ambassador of Har Ghar Swachh mission by brand Harpic in association with the Government of India, stresses upon the problems faced by women due to lack of proper toilet facilities, and the aspect of cleaning the toilets that inevitably falls upon the woman of the house.
“The main idea is to bring behavioural change towards maintaining and cleaning the toilets, which is considered a taboo to talk about. I have also personally seen the problem faced by women when there are no proper toilets that are available.
For example, I notice my sister or mother and wife do not use public toilets if they are not clean. Unhygienic toilet conditions can lead to diseases. my wife who is an actress had to shoot for Mahabharat in the forest, and the production manager did not provide proper toilet facilities as there was only one woman amongst the crew. However, this callousness could cause urinal infection.
A lot of women have accepted it and men are also not aware of it. On one end the government is requesting girls to attend their school, but the drop-out rate of girls is increasing because there are no proper toilets.”
All around us there are so many things that are happening. Because of this attitude ‘Chalta Hai’ attitude towards cleanliness and hygiene of toilets, we endeavour to drive a behavioural change. Har Ghar Swachh is all about change that always begins at home.
We need to keep our toilets clean and break the taboo and want people to talk about clean toilets and sanitation. And the entire job of cleaning the toilet is considered as the job of a woman. Men, who feel menial about it should also know that it is their duty as well.
Elaborating on Harpic’s campaign, Ganesh shares, “From north to south the idea is to have a clean toilet for every Indian.”
