Healthy livingis happy living
Obesity is something that has always been a concern for many. While most people who want to deal with it follow certain diet and get into a pattern of life that they are commonly not used to, they often neglect the health factor in their bodies. We sometimes neglect the fact that healthy living is essential part of our life as it helps us to live a happy life. The same was discussed at length by experts at a session conducted by VLCC in Hyderabad.
Dr Anju Ghei, Vice President – Technical operations and R&D at VLCC Healthcare, who holds a degree of physical rehabilitation techniques shares her perspective on leading a healthy life. Being a sports person she always adapted a healthy life style and also loves to share her knowledge about healthy living. “I aim to give holistic wellness, which is done with scientific solutions for weight management.”
Suggesting solutions for metabolic disorders she says, “For people suffering from diabetes, cardiovascular problems, arthritis, sleep problems etc, we help them reduce all these medical issues, we do comprehensive assessment by doing a body composition analysis through which we check the body fat and the water levels present in the body. Our main focus is to reduce the abdominal fat present in the body.”
Talking about the methods to treat people Dr Anju says, “We have four pillars which are diet, exercise, manual therapy and life style change. For diet we give food that is healthy and not starvation diet which has lot of anti-oxidants, fiber, less of fat, less of sugar which is latest. We have 100 trillion bacteria in our gut and so, if it good bacteria it becomes healthy or otherwise you suffer from these disorders. Life style change involves adapting small elements in life like using stairs instead of a lift and walking while you talk on the phone which helps you burn calories.”
To stay healthy, one should always be active and adapt a healthy life style. The wellness advisor suggests, “Exercise is most important because if you do not do it we tend to lose our strength physically. Activity is not doing one hour of gym or walking, its being active throughout the day and if you want to lose weight you have to be active for one and a half hour in the whole day and in that you need to do a cardio exercise like walking, swimming, treadmill, cycling etc and it needs not be at one go but spread throughout the day.”
For people who cannot afford to spend time to maintain their health, she says, “One can choose to take help from diet and exercise counseling available online.” Stressing on adapting simple yet good diet practice, she says, “I suggest low fat, low sugar and low carbohydrate food. Have lots of fruits and vegetables and also have protein-rich food that improves gut health.”
