Choose the right diamond

Diamonds are precious and have its own charm when someone wears it on. The real value of it is found in every piece that is designed or carved for an individual. When it comes to identifying real diamonds many of us get cheated with imitation and fake diamonds for which we end up spending huge amounts. 

FICCI Ladies Organisation - FLO in association with IGI International Gemological Institute and Pavan Mor Jewellers organised a workshop ‘Know Your Jewellery”. Hitindra Mistry, Head of Education of IGI spoke about how to identify diamonds during a presentation. 

Every woman has different questions lined up in her mind when it comes to the purchase of diamonds. Answering simple questions like how old a diamond can be, he shared, “The youngest diamond in the world is around 100 million years old, which makes it one of the permanent things in the world.” 

The 5C’s of a diamond Cut, Colour, Clarity, Carat and Certification decide how genuine or what quality the diamond is. He related facts about the huff test - huff on the diamond and the vapour disappears immediately; if the vapour takes long time to disappear then it means it is an imitation or a fake one.

When you buy a diamond make sure that there aren’t any scratches present on it as this means it is a fake diamond. While most of the stores that offer you different discounts and advertise them in a way that you get convinced make sure that you purchase the right piece,” he adds.­
