Kankatala opens its first store in Hyderabad
The popular store often referred to as The Queens of Sarees – ‘Kankatala’ opened its ninth showroom - its first in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad. What makes these sarees special is that the Kankatala generation has travelled over 20 days to more than 25 weaving clusters to handpick and curate the best collection for the store.
They have eight stores in Andhra Pradesh and this store is dedicated to ‘Rani Bhagmati’ – the mystic 16th century queen of Hyderabad. Kankatala has a golden rule which they haven't broken in the last 75 years. That rule is that each and every saree among the thousands they have, is carefully handpicked by a member of the family, with equal emphasis on quality, weave, design and fabric.
Anirudh third generation director of the brand says, “She (Bhagmati) was in love with the Nizam and her manner of dressing was different. She has been draped in the classic Banarasi, a weave older than history and tradition, with heavy antique zari work.”
The store also has sarees that are designed around legendary queens of the land and hence the include Maharani Adi Laxmi devamma of Gadwal, A Kanchipattu saree named after Rani Rudramadevi, Akkadevi, the Chalukya queen etc.
